American University’s main campus is near Tenleytown in northwest D.C. By metro, take the red line to the Tenleytown metro stop. Once you exit, take the AU campus shuttles to the main campus. Either of the Red Route or Blue Route shuttles will get you to campus. Hop off at the fifth stop (Kerwin Hall) and you’ll be on the quad.
If you’re coming from the Marriott Wardman Park, the host hotel for the main ONA17 conference, the easiest way to AU might be by bus. The 96 metro bus line will take you from the hotel to Tenleytown. Hop on at the corner of 24th and Calvert Streets NW, near the hotel. On the north side of the street, you’ll board the 96 in the direction of Tenleytown/AU. From Tenleytown, take the AU campus shuttles to the main campus. Either of the Red Route or Blue Route shuttles will get you to campus. Hop off at the fifth stop (Kerwin Hall) and you’ll be on the quad.
If you’re driving to campus, we recommend parking in the garage under the School of International Service (SIS). The building is found at the intersection of Nebraska and New Mexico Avenues NW. Use the campus parking map for more details. Parking is free after 5 p.m.
ONA U will take place in the School of Communication, housed in the McKinley building. Use the campus map to find McKinley, and look for ONA U signs on the outside doors. Once inside, you’ll see signs directing you to the registration desk.
During the event, we’ll have tables representing various programs you might want to check out. The Investigative Reporting Workshop publishes in-depth stories about government and corporate accountability. AU’s Career Center can offer resources and tips to help you navigate your professional life. The School of Communication’s Graduate Admissions office has information about grad programs to help you expand your knowledge as a multi-platform communicator. And Ken Sands, Deputy Publisher at The Chronicle of Higher Education, will be there to offer general journalism advice and career counseling.
